2024 US Open: Top 10 power rankings at Pinehurst
With three top-10s in his last four major championships and five in his last nine, it’s easy to feel that Tommy Fleetwood’s time is coming.
Of course, he’d love to finally win a PGA Tour event first, but he also wouldn’t mind skipping that step and jumping straight to his first major.
The U.S. Open has been one of Fleetwood’s best majors with three top-fives in eight appearances.
The Englishman is coming off T-5th last year at the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.
It makes sense he plays well at this event given his ball striking prowess that keeps him in play and away from the big numbers.
A tidy short game helps out a lot, too.
Through June 2, Fleetwood ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green (.411). He’s also sixth in scrambling (67.86%) and 37th in sand saves (59.42%). With over 100 bunkers on property and lots of sandy native areas, bunker play is critical.
The 33-year-old is 17th in average proximity from the sand (7’7”).
Fleetwood is not a great approach player from the rough, which fortunately isn’t a huge deterrent this week.
We last saw him tee it up last week at the Memorial Tournament. He got off to a strong start with a 3-under 69 en route to T-20th. Fleetwood was T-5th in the field in driving accuracy (76.79%), 15th in SG: Off-the-Tee (1.326), and 18th in SG: Putting (2.43).
This will be Fleetwood’s debut at Pinehurst No. 2.
