2024 US Open: Top 10 power rankings at Pinehurst
While Brooks Koepka was not in the mix to win the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, he briefly held the lead on Friday and was among the best of the rest behind blowout champ, Martin Kaymer.
Rounds of 70-68-72-71 helped the 24-year-old finish T-4th and cement his PGA Tour status. Ten years later, he’s among the LIV contingent in attendance this week.
Speaking of LIV, Koepka teed it up last week on that tour at the Houston event. The former Florida State Seminole picked up his third straight top-10 and fourth in eight events this season by earning solo ninth in the sweltering Texas heat.
Koepka’s previous start resulted in a win in Singapore.
This year at the majors, Koepka’s gone T-45th at the Masters and T-26th at the PGA Championship. Highly disappointing by his standards, but as long as he’s healthy and in his prime years, it’s foolhardy to discount him.
Just last year, Koepka went T-2nd at the Masters and won the PGA as part of going 4-for-4 making cuts.
This season on LIV, the Floridian ranks ninth in fairway accuracy (61.9%). In the majors, this is one area of his game that seems to ramp up. He can bomb it a mile without sacrificing precision. If he goes off line, he has the musculature to hack it out. He might be disappointed at the lack of thick stuff this week at Pinehurst No. 2.
Koepka is also fourth in greens in regulation (74.31%) and 14th in scrambling (64.86%).
