2024 Valspar Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Innisbrook
Unless there’s a global pandemic to cancel it like in 2020, Adam Hadwin isn’t missing a Valspar Championship.
The Canadian has teed it up at the Copperhead course every year he could beginning with his debut in 2015. It’s been a bit feast or famine with four made cuts in eight tries, but he tends to surge when he plays the weekend.
Hadwin won at Innisbrook in 2017 (68-64-67-71), defended his title with T-12th (71-70-71-68) in 2018, and took T-7th (64-66-70-72) in 2022.
It’s ironic that Florida feels like home for someone from the north, but I’ll let him explain what he means.
“It definitely fits my eye,” Hadwin was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2022. “It's kind of similar to courses that I grew up on, kind of through the trees. You got to work the golf ball both ways. You got to be in position off the tee, otherwise you get blocked out on certain holes.”
The 36-year-old Louisville alum has a pair of top-six finishes already in 2024. He took T-6th at The American Express and T-4th at a Signature Event, the Genesis Invitational.
Hadwin ranks 10th on the PGA Tour in birdie average (4.84). A good putter helps him convert those birdie looks. He’s 39th in putting average (1.729) and 18th in three-putt avoidance (1.59%).
He’s also tops in Strokes Gained: Club Toss after he amused the crowd last week as he discarded his club into the water, following his wayward golf balls on holes 17 and 18.
It was frustration mixed with humor as all he could do was laugh after. TPC Sawgrass can chew up and spit out a lot of players.
Innisbrook is no slouch, either, but less water lurks. That will be a sight for sore eyes for Hadwin.
