Jordan Spieth is among the contingent of past champions in the Valspar Championship field this week.

The Texan not only has won at Innisbrook, but he owns three top-10s and five top-20s in six starts.

There are so many big-time events this time of the year so it’s understandable that he doesn’t make it to the Copperhead course year in and year out, but it might have to become a staple on his schedule.

Spieth skipped from 2019-2022 (there was no event in 2020), but he made it back last year and hauled in some cash. Rounds of 67-70-69-70 (-8) netted T-3rd and left him two shots off the pace and just a shot off of second place.

“The course plays longer than the yardage, no doubt about it,” Spieth assessed the Copperhead course prior to the 2015 Valspar Championship, as transcribed by ASAP Sports. “But I enjoy the challenge. You really have to be in the fairway out here and so whatever it takes to put it there, whether it's driver or you got to go back to a hybrid or 2 iron.”

Spieth’s Valspar highlight, of course, came in 2015. He fired 70-67-68-69 to reach a playoff where he thwarted Sean O’Hair and Patrick Reed.

Spieth will look to rely on course history to swing him in the right direction. Current form most recently shows a missed cut last week at the Players Championship.

He does have a pair of top-10s in six starts in 2024, including solo third at The Sentry.

The 30-year-old ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (1.21). His putter is back to its old self, ranking ninth in SG: Putting (.765) after some sub-top 100 seasons in recent memory.

Spieth would like to hit more fairways, but he’s 13th in average approach proximity from the rough (40’).
