Fresh off his win with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Rory McIlroy looks to keep the good vibes going by claiming his fourth Wells Fargo Championship victory.

The Northern Irishman earned his first career PGA Tour title when he won his tournament debut in 2010. A course record at the time of 10-under 62 in the final round elevated his stardom as he went from barely making the cut to runaway champion.

McIlroy won again in 2015 (70-67-61-69) by setting a new course record in the process. It was a seven-shot victory.

Fast forward to 2021, McIlroy won by one in tougher conditions posting 72-66-68-68.

He also took T-2nd (70-68-66-70) in 2012. Aside from a missed cut in 2011, McIlroy has never finished worse than T-47th at Quail Hollow counting the 2017 PGA Championship. He owns 10 top-25s in 12 starts on property.

The course became tougher after the PGA came through, but it was still not Rory-proofed.

“I've always had a level of comfort on this golf course, whether it was back in the sort of 2011-2012 era or sort of post-PGA in 2017,” McIlroy was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “If you look at all the results, I certainly excel here in May rather than when we played it in August and it was full of bermuda, I struggled with that a little bit. When it's like this and overseeded, I feel like it's -- that's sort of the right in my wheelhouse.”

Prior to his win at Zurich, McIlroy had finished T-33rd or higher in seven consecutive starts. That includes a win on the DP World Tour and a solo third a few starts back at the Valero Texas Open.

The 35-year-old ranks seventh on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (.787). McIlroy is third in driving distance (314.2 yards) and has led that stat at times this season. This a course where big hitters thrive.

The rough can be tricky, but McIlroy is seventh in average approach proximity from the rough (39’8”).
