2024 Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Quail Hollow
Patrick Cantlay continues to rack up high finishes. It’s been the name of the game throughout his career.
He last competed at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans where he and buddy Xander Schauffele finished T-23rd. Cantlay’s last solo outing produced T-3rd at the RBC Heritage.
In 2024, the former UCLA Bruin has nine top-25s in 10 starts. He came close to his first win since 2022 by finishing 3rd at the Genesis Invitational.
Cantlay arrives to Quail Hollow for the fifth time playing a third different tournament. He debuted here at the 2017 PGA Championship, taking T-33rd (72-71-72-72).
He missed the cut at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship but came back the next year as a dominant force for the victorious American Presidents Cup team. Cantlay posted a 3-1-0 record and a singles win over Adam Scott.
Cantlay posted T-21st (67-71-71-69) at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship.
“The Presidents Cup's setup was a lot different, no overseed and it was a different time of year,” Cantlay was transcribed in 2023 by Tee Scripts. “The golf course was playing a lot firmer for Presidents Cup and then it being match play made it a little different … It's actually a lot more similar to when I played the Wells Fargo for the first time last year.”
The 32-year-old’s PGA Tour statistical ranks are lower than one would expect given his consistent results this season.
Cantlay is still gaining strokes in every Strokes Gained category except for Approach, where he’s a hair under zero.
He sits ninth in average approach proximity from 225-250 yards (43’2”), which should help him attack Quail Hollow’s imposing par-5s and long par-3s.
