New teams shuffle in and out each year at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. A constant has been the all-California duo of Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

This will be their fourth appearance together at TPC Louisiana. In 2021, a 74 in their first go-round of alternate shot doomed their title chances, but a Sunday 67 helped them rise to a T-11 finish. Best-ball rounds were 64 and 68.

They were champs in 2022 with 59 and 60 in four-ball and 68 and 72 in alternate shot.

“I think with Pat and I, we played so much together, that more times than not, we're going to pick each other up when one of us isn't doing so well,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2023.

Last year resulted in T-4th (67-63-66-66) where they ended up four shots back and just two behind second.

Schauffele has played great golf all season. His streak of three top-10s was snapped last week after taking T-18th at the RBC Heritage, but he extended his run of top-25s to six.

The 30-year-old owns a 4-4-0 Ryder Cup record and is 3-3-0 in partnered events, primarily with Cantlay. At the last two Presidents Cups, he’s 6-3-0 overall and 4-3-0 with Cantlay.

Schauffele is third on the PGA Tour in SG: Total (1.75) and third in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.435). They’re in good shape on the par-3s with him coming in at fourth in approach proximity from 200-plus yards (43’).

Cantlay hasn’t quite matched Schauffele’s form this season, though he did have a couple top-11s in California and played well at the RBC Heritage where he took T-3rd with four rounds in the 60s.

The 29-year-old is 5-2-1 overall in the Ryder Cup and 3-2-1 in partner events, primarily with Schauffele. At the last two Presidents Cups, he’s 6-3-0 and 4-3-0 with Schauffele.

Cantlay is 12th on the PGA Tour in approach proximity from 125-150 yards (21’) and 16th from 200-plus (46’8”).

Their chemistry together and familiarity with this course and format over the years is the reason they’re in the top spot this week.
