2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Louisiana
There’s a double dose of Florida Gator with this team.
Billy Horschel is top reptile among these two, especially after last week’s win at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
Horschel notched PGA Tour career win No. 8 after rounds of 67-69-66-63 to win by two over second place and four over third.
It’s a bit jarring to see Horschel competing in an alternate field event, but he proved he was the cream of the crop. The 37-year-old lost his game in 2023, but he’s back to his prime self in 2024.
While it seemed like this win came out of nowhere, Horschel came to the Dominican Republic with three top-12s in his previous five starts.
Horschel has some of the best course history at TPC Louisiana. He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2013 when it was an individual event.
Horschel teamed up with Scott Piercy to win the second edition of the team event in 2018.
Last year, Horschel and Sam Burns tied for 11th.
Horschel quietly ranks 10th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (1.171). That’s thanks largely to his rank of 18th in SG: Putting (.578) and positive marks in all categories.
He may have to carry former college teammate, 35-year-old Tyson Alexander. Alexander has hung around as a pro for some time, but he hasn’t been able to break through for a win.
Alexander joins Horschel in bringing good putting to the table this week. Alexander is 49th on the PGA Tour in SG: Putting (.326).
Alexander enters the week on a streak of three made cuts, including T-14th at the Valero Texas Open. He’s no stranger to the Zurich having played last year with Carl Yuan.
