2. Steve Stricker

The theme of this article is that we need a captain who gives the US the best chance at winning in 2025, so why not go with the guy who led the team to victory in 2020?

Steve Stricker was the US captain in 2020 when the US throttled team Europe 19-9. He was so successful that many wanted him to be captain again ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Many of the players on that 2020 team will also likely be on the 2025 team as well. This includes Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth. So it’s clear that these players have great rapport with Stricker, making him an even better selection.

But the thing that makes Stricker one of the best options in my mind is that he won’t make the same mistakes that Zach Johnson did in 2023. The biggest problem with Johnson’s tenure was many thought he selected his friends with his captains' picks instead of players who were in better form. This cost him big time when the tournament rolled around, but Stricker won’t make this same mistake.

Stricker can focus on making what he thinks the best picks are and not trying to please anyone with his selections. Stricker has earned the right to not be questioned with his selections simply because of how dominant the US was in 2020. So that gives me a ton of confidence in having Stricker back as captain again.
