3M Open 2024: Top 5 picks to win at TPC Twin Cities
4) Sahith Theegala
A jolly demeanor, you will rarely see Sahith Theegala without a smile on his face.
Theegala earned his tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour and immediately burst onto the scene as a rookie with an electric performance at the Waste Management Open in 2022.
At just 26, he has the whole world in front of him and has four finishes inside the top six this season. He seems to be cut from a similar cloth as Jordan Spieth -- his highs are high, but his lows are just as low -- as demonstrated by a 14-over score at The Open. When his game is on, he looks like a top-five player in the world, no doubt about it. But like Spieth, he tends to lose control of the golf ball sometimes, to put it mildly.
Theegala tends to get astray with the driver and consequently ranks outside the top 150 in green in regulation percentage. It is even more critical this week that he keeps it in play off the tee, as water is lurking in all sections of the property.
His irons, in line with the rest of his golf game, run hot and cold. Losing 1.82 strokes on approach shots last week does not inspire a ton of confidence, but he has shown that his iron 'peak' weeks are good enough to win tournaments.
You could make the argument that Theegala should be even higher on this list, but water looms just one swing away...
