After seven long months, major championship golf is once again upon us. It's time for the 88th edition of the Masters at the esteemed Augusta National Golf Club.

Jon Rahm returns to Augusta as the defending Masters champion following his monumental victory on these hallowed grounds twelve months ago. In addition, for the first time since Brian Harman defied all odds to lift the Claret Jug last summer at Royal Liverpool, the best players will come together once again for the first time in 2024 on a major stage.

This time last year, three players had clearly set themselves apart from the rest of the pack as the three favorites to win the springtime major. Now, that number is down to one as World No.1 Scottie Scheffler enters the 2024 Masters as the unanimous man to beat.

The 2022 Masters champion finished T-10 in his Masters defense last year and he returns to Augusta National this season with two wins, including his history-making win at THE PLAYERS last month, and a runner-up finish in his last three starts. He hasn't finished worse than T-17 in any start this year.

Rahm will attempt to become the first repeat winner of the Masters since Tiger Woods accomplished that remarkable feat at the 2001 and 2002 Masters. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy will aim to finally conquer Augusta National and in doing so complete the Career Grand Slam. The Northern Irishman will attempt to break a nearly decade-long drought in majors this week with his last major triumph coming back in 2014 at the PGA Championship.

Not since Hideki Matsuyama's marvelous win at Augusta National in 2021 has the Masters witnessed a longshot or 'Dark Horse' champion. In fact, seven of the last ten Masters champions came into the week with odds of +3000 or less. Three of the ten, including Matsuyama, entered the week with odds not exceeding +5000.

Scheffler, Rahm, and Rory McIlroy are deserved favorites entering the 88th Masters and while someone defying all odds and claiming a major as both Brian Harman (The Open) and Wyndham Clark (U.S. Open) did last year may seem improbable at the Masters, it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Here is a look at 5 Dark Horses who could surprise at this year's Masters and don the Green Jacket come Sunday.
