BMW Championship payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
50 of this season's best survived the challenge of TPC Southwind last week to advance to the second leg of this year's FedEx Cup Playoffs, the 2024 BMW Championship at the majestic Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado. With the end of a long and grueling season in sight, the second of this year's three postseason events on the PGA Tour was always going to deliver plenty of drama and excitement as some of the best battled for their spot at this year's Tour Championship at East Lake.
Those who advanced to the BMW Championship knew they were guaranteed a spot in each of next year's signature PGA events courtesy of their precious Top 50 spot in the FedEx Cup Standings following this year's FedEx St. Jude Championship. The goal now was to either maintain their place in the standings or to work their way into the Top 30 if on the outside looking in.
Incredibly, 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley, who advanced to the 2024 BMW Championship right on the number, made a significant move in the early stages of this year's championship following rounds of 66 and 68 through the first 36 holes of action at Castle Pines. Bradley followed two fantastic rounds with a resolute 2-under 70 on Moving Day which ensured he was the man to beat at the top of the leaderboard going into the final round.
A win for Keegan Bradley would not only see him become the 20th multiple winner of the BMW Championship, per PGA Tour Communications, following his victory at the event in 2018, but it would also vault him from 50th in the FedEx Cup Standings all the way up to 4th heading into the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.
Bradley would attempt to hold off a host of challengers including Adam Scott, who recorded a phenomenal 63 during the second round to set the course record at Castle Pines, Ludvig Aberg, Alex Noren, Xander Schauffele, and numerous other contenders during the final round of the 2024 BMW Championship. Whether it was Bradley, or any of the competition in hot pursuit looking to lift the trophy in the mountains, whoever emerged triumphant at the BMW Championship would not only secure their spot at East Lake but also earn a winning share of one of the most lucrative prize purses of the season. But exactly how much was on the line at Castle Pines? Let's take a look at the purse and payout distribution by finishing position for the penultimate event of the season.
BMW Championship purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for the BMW Championship is set at a whopping $20 million for 2024 with this year's champion at Castle Pines taking home a winner's share of $3.6 million; a little under 20% of the overall prize purse. This marks the second week in a row that a FedEx Cup Playoff event has divvied out a purse of $20 million to its field; following in the footsteps of the first playoff event of the year at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. For the second year running, the BMW Championship will divvy out $20 million in prize money to its field. The massive figure falls right in line with most of the season's other elite purses, including each of the year's eight signature events which also offered that substantial prize in 2024.

Much like the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the signature events before it, the 2024 BMW Championship will reward its limited field handsomely as just making it to this stage of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is a great accomplishment. As such, 40 of the Top 50 finishers at Castle Pines will earn at least three-figures while each of the Top 19 finishers at the 2024 BMW Championship will take home over $300,000 in prize money for their efforts in Colorado. Meanwhile, each of the Top 11 will earn a whopping 500k while finishing Top 3 is worth at least seven-figures. With eye-opening figures like these, it's easy to see why the second playoff event of the PGA Tour's postseason is one of the more lucrative events of the year.
In addition to earning a handsome winner's share of the 2024 BMW Championship prize purse, and all of the other perks that come with winning a PGA Tour event, the champion at Castle Pines will also earn quadruple FedEx Cup points to the tune of 2,000; leaving them in great stead heading into the season's final event at the Tour Championship where the Top 30 will vie for the 2024 FedEx Cup.
