10. OWGR: 41st. FedEx Cup: 9th. Byeong Hun An. 2024ByronNelson/PowerRank/10

Byeong Hun An is the highest-ranked player in the FedEx Cup in this week’s field.

He did a lot of his damage in the points race in Q1 with early season results showing three top-10s, including T-2nd at the Sony Open in Hawaii where he lost in a playoff.

While An has cooled off a bit lately, he still has a T-16th a few weeks ago at the Masters to hang on.

An has progressed very well in the last two years after a demotion to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022. He was an accomplished player first on the European Tour and is now doing it on the PGA Tour.

The 32-year-old South Korean also has a high finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson working in his favor. An posted 67-67-68-65 last year at TPC Craig Ranch for T-14th. He was only six shots back of first place.

The former Cal Golden Bear was fourth in the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (5.197) and sixth in SG: Around-the-Green (4.042). A cold putter kept him out of contention.

Unfortunately, An’s putting has been a weak spot this season, too, but it’s at least the easiest category to heat up in. His ball striking has been superb, though, coming in at 31st on the PGA Tour in SG: Tee-to-Green (.647) and 18th in SG: Off-the-Tee (.454).

An has a lot of distance. He can bomb and gouge his way into having a lot of wedges in hand. He’s tops in average approach proximity from inside 100 yards (30’2”).
