The PGA Tour returned to stunning Torrey Pines this week for the 2024 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open.

The South Course at Torrey never fails to provide a true championship test of golf for all who are brave enough to take on the challenge, and this year was no different with just three players reaching double-digits under par following the completion of 54 holes of exhilarating action.

Amongst those three, it was Stephan Jaeger who carried a slim one-stroke advantage over a congested leaderboard of chasers. Hot on the German's heels, seventeen players entered the final round of this year's Farmers Insurance Open within four shots of the lead.

Big names including Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Ludvig Aberg, and Will Zalatoris were all ready to capitalize should the leader falter during Saturday's final round at Torrey Pines. On Saturday, it was Frenchman, Matthieu Pavon, however, who emerged from the pack and capitalized on some costly errors by Jaeger down the stretch.

Pavon became the first player from France to win on the PGA Tour after he fired a final round 69 at Torrey Pines to win the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open by a one-shot margin. Rising star, Nicolai Hojgaard recorded two birdies on his final four holes but came up just shy of picking up his own first win on the PGA Tour in the end.

Everyone who advanced through to the weekend of this year's Farmers Insurance Open would have believed they had a chance to write their name alongside the names of previous winners of this event. In reality, though, only Matthieu Pavon was able to claim that honor for this year when it was all said and done.

Regardless, there was still eye-opening money available for every player who found themselves in contention this week with a massive prize purse up for grabs. How large was the purse for this year's Farmers Insurance Open and how much would the champion walk away with in 2024? Let's take a look.

Farmers Insurance Open: 2024 Prize Purse and Winner's Share

The purse for the Farmers Insurance Open is set at $9 million for 2024. Outside of the Sentry (the first Signature Event of 2024) to begin the new season, the prize money on offer for the Farmers Insurance Open is the largest amount paid out to the field among regular events on the schedule thus far.

For comparison, The American Express purse for 2024 came in at $8.4 million, while the Sony Open in Hawaii paid out a total of $8.3 million. The winner of this year's Farmers Insurance Open, Matthieu Pavon, left Torrey Pines with the whopping $1.62 million winner's share, a little under 20% of the overall prize purse for this season's championship.

Let's take a look at the complete prize earnings and payout distribution by position for the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.

While not the same size of purse that will be up for grabs for players at this season's majors and signature events, the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open purse of $9 million will still rank on the higher-end of regular event purses on the PGA Tour this year.

In addition to earning well over $1 million in prize money, this year's Farmers Insurance Open champion earned a valuable 500 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race to East Lake and the 2024 Tour Championship in August.
