Christmas will come a little bit early for golf fans this year after big news was unveiled on Wednesday that a mouth-watering clash that pits Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will take place sometime in mid-December, just in time for Christmas. The tantalizing duel between four of golf's biggest stars will take place in Las Vegas and will air on TNT later this year as first reported by Golfweek.

It has yet to be confirmed whether this latest match will be a continuation of the increasingly popular Capital One's 'The Match' series, either way, this latest made-for-TV competition is set to arguably be one of the most enthralling contests to date pitting a couple of the PGA and LIV Tour's biggest stars against each other.

Debuting in 2018 with Tiger vs. Phil, 'The Match' series has taken place at least once a year every year since 2020 and has featured a plethora of golf's biggest stars alongside celebrities and famous athletes from both the NFL and NBA. Rory McIlroy won the latest edition, The Match IX, earlier this year in what was the popular event's first mixed-team showcase. The four-time major winner has taken part in two previous editions of Capital One's 'The Match' after also teaming up with Tiger Woods back in 2022 in The Match VII.

Bryson DeChambeau has featured on two previous occasions, both in 2021, once alongside former Green Bay Packers and current New York Jets Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, in The Match IV, and again later that year in a highly-anticipated match against Brooks Koepka, Koepka's only previous appearance in the event. The pairing of LIV stars DeChambeau and Koepka in the upcoming match is a scintillating prospect after the duo's infamous feud in recent years.

A Match, or another edition of Capital One's 'The Match' (TBD), with stories abound has golf fans buzzing about this mouth-watering showcase later this year that could well be the best version of the made-for-TV golfing exhibition to date.

Golf fans have mixed feelings about enticing showcase

Christmas is set to come early for golf fans later this year, or is it? Following the announcement of the latest golfing exhibition fans had mixed feelings about the upcoming showcase.

Even as an exhibition, this will be the first PGA vs. LIV encounter fans get to take in outside of the four major championships and it's easy to understand why that would be so appealing for many fans who simply want to see the very best playing together on a more regular basis. That is something that might not be seen very often in the near future with no sign of a potential PGA and PIF merger in sight any time soon.

Regardless of the format or competition, getting to watch four of the best golfers on the planet playing together in the same event is a real treat and you can sign me up for that any day of the week.
