Historic Solheim Cup could spell big things for Rose Zhang
Last season, Rose Zhang burst onto the scene at the Mizuho Americas Open. She became the first player on tour to win the first tournament of her career since 1951. Now the American-born player has been on tour for almost two complete seasons.
On the year, Zhang has one victory, taking the Cognizant Founders Cup in May. The victory snapped Nelly Korda's tournament winning streak at five. Zhang won the tournament by two strokes over Swedish player, Madelene Sagstrom. She shot in the 60s in all four rounds of the tournament.
Rose Zhang ranks ninth in the Rolex Rankings this year
She has four top 10s on the year, with her recent being a tie for sixth at the CPKC Women's Open. She has only missed four cuts during the season. Rose Zhang has garnered earnings of over $900,000 on the year and could eclipse $1 million if she closes out the remainder of the year on a high note.
Zhang currently has made 160 birdies this season. In comparison, Korda has 190. She is in the top 30 in greens in regulation percentage this year with a percentage of 70.86, which sees her ranked 26th on tour.
The American qualified to play in Paris at the Olympics in August. She was in contention throughout all four days but faltered in the final round en route to an 8th-place finish. “I’m proud of the way I fought. I made some birdies on the back nine and gave myself a chance,” she said after in reflection.
Rose Zhang was a massive part of the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup team over the weekend going 4-0-0 for the Stars and Stripes in her second appearance in the competition. Her historic performance could spell big things for the talented star going forward and another victory on tour this year would not only punctuate what has been an incredible season but also make her one of the unquestionable favorites at the majority of big events in 2025.
