Jordan Spieth's solid WM Phoenix Open showing bodes well for 2024 season
Jordan Spieth continued his solid start to the 2024 season with a T6 showing at the WM Phoenix Open. This showing bodes well for the rest of his 2024 season.

In three starts this season, Spieth has recorded two top tens. He was in contention at the first tournament of the year, The Sentry, in Hawaii. He never really challenged at the weather-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but he bounced back in Phoenix.
He got himself into contention and although he was not exactly right in the mix of things come Sunday afternoon, he still had the potential to be.
We all know that Spieth is at his best when he is finding ways to score. Whether he is spraying his driver or is off with his irons, he always seems to have a chip-in or a 30-foot putt up his sleeve at any given moment. That is what makes him so exciting to watch.
In Phoenix, Spieth struggled with his iron game. That is consistent with his current ranking of 102nd in Strokes Gained Approach to the Green. Historically, Spieth has been an excellent iron player. Look for him to get this figured out and start hitting shots close to the pin.
Spieth's driving and putting have been solid, with him ranking 36th and 19th on Tour in strokes gained for each category respectively. His short game wizardry has not changed, so the iron game is the one missing piece he needs to get everything clicking.
I would not be at all surprised to see Spieth get his iron game figured out in the weeks between now and early April when he will arrive at Augusta National.
Spieth seemingly always finds a way to make himself a part of the conversation at Augusta, so if he is able to solidify his approach game between now and then while maintaining his level in other areas of the game, he could very well make a run at his second green jacket.
