Lindsey McCurdy is overcoming colossal odds to fulfill her dream
She's competed in four tournaments this season and has made four cuts. This would be a great feat for any golfer, male or female, but even more impressive considering what Lindsey McCurdy has gone through to get to this point this season.
In 2021 while on the Epson Tour, Lindsey McCurdy began experiencing health problems.
After consulting with various physicians, she was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. She has since been not only battling other players but also how best to manage the diagnosis while competing as a professional golfer. In an interview with LPGA.com a few weeks ago, McCurdy commented that it has been a battle and her focus this offseason was on her health and golf game both at the same time.
"I feel like it's been showing, so that's really nice to see," said McCurdy in the interview. In her first season after her diagnosis in 2022, she made seven cuts. Her best finish that season was a T14 at the Circling Raven Championship.
At the end of that season, her fellow players awarded her the Heather Wilbur Spirit Award. The award is given to the player who best exemplifies dedication, courage, perseverance, love of the game, and a spirit toward achieving goals as a professional golfer. Heather Wilbur was a player on the Epson Tour who played while having a leukemia diagnosis. She passed away in 2003.
In 2024, Lindsey McCurdy has three top 25's including a second-place finish at the IOA Golf Classic in March. She is in ninth place on the official money list on the Epson Tour.
She is in 8th place in The Race for the Card standings this season in her battle to secure an LPGA Tour card. If McCurdy continues her strong play for the remainder of the season she should be able to earn a place on the LPGA Tour for 2025.
