Memorial Tournament payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
The PGA Tour's best returned to Dublin, Ohio, for this year's edition of the famous Memorial Tournament at Jack's Place. With signature status, an elevated purse, and a prestigious venue, all eyes were on the Memorial Tournament, even with the year's third major fast approaching.
Typically the week before a major championship is a final opportunity for players to fine-tune their games before going into major week, and while that was certainly still the case at this year's Memorial, there was no denying there was plenty at stake at the season's seventh signature event.
2023 champion Viktor Hovland found himself in contention again at the Memorial Tournament, until a disastrous back nine at the challenging venue all but doomed his chances of defending his title in 2024. Muirfield Village bared its teeth as last year's FedEx Cup champion bogeyed four consecutive holes before a disastrous triple-bogey on the 16th sent him in with a 42. While Hovland and others saw their hopes of lifting this year's trophy dashed on Moving Day at this year's Memorial Tournament, others rose to the occasion and were well-positioned going into the final round.
None more so than the World No.1 Scottie Scheffler. Aiming for an astonishing fifth win on the season, Scheffler withstood the demands of a grueling test during the third round en route to an excellent 1-under 71. Rejuvenated following the events of the past few weeks, Scottie would take a commanding four-shot lead over the competition into the final round.
Incredibly, the World No.1 became the sixth player to hold that significant advantage heading into the final round of a PGA Tour event this season, following in the footsteps of both Robert MacIntyre (RBC Canadian Open) and Davis Riley (Charles Schwab Challenge), who both went on to win in each of the last two events on tour.
With Collin Morikawa, Sepp Straka, and Adam Hadwin waiting in the wings, all four shots adrift of the lead going into the final round, Scheffler would look to keep the pedal down once again on his way to victory as he had done so often this season already. Whoever emerged as champion would not only get to shake the great Jack Nicklaus's hand on the 18th green but also get to take home a humongous winner's share of this year's Memorial Tournament prize purse. How much was at stake this year, though? Let's take a look at the full purse breakdown, winner's prize money, and payout distribution by finishing position for every player in the field at Muirfield Village in 2024.
Memorial Tournament purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for this year's Memorial Tournament is set at $20 million for 2024 with this year's champion taking home an eye-opening $4 million in prize winnings; a massive 20% of the overall purse. For the second year in a row, the Memorial Tournament purse stands at $20 million; this remains a drastic increase from the $12 million in prize money paid to the field at the 2022 Memorial Tournament. While it remains the standard for an overall purse in a signature event on the PGA Tour this season, the 2024 Memorial Tournament will award the winner with a whopping $4 million prize, this is an increase from the $3.6 million that was dished out to the winner at the each of the previous two signature events, the Wells Fargo Championship and RBC Heritage, and is on par with what Scottie Scheffler took home for winning this year's Arnold Palmer Invitational.

As has been the case throughout this season on the PGA Tour, the signature events continue to reward those who have qualified for them handsomely. The Top 52 finishers at this year's Memorial Tournament are guaranteed at least $50k, meanwhile, the Top 36 will all clear six figures, while each of the Top 4 finishers at Muirfield Village in 2024 will take home a whopping seven-figure payday. As one of this season's signature events on the PGA Tour, the Memorial Tournament payout distribution ranks among the top prize purses of the season, and with eye-opening figures like this, it's easy to understand why.
In addition to earning a handsome winner's share of this year's Memorial Tournament purse, along with everything else that comes with winning a prestigious event such as the Memorial, this year's champion will also earn a crucial 700 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race to East Lake and the 2024 Tour Championship this Autumn.
The game's elite will converge upon the iconic Pinehurst No. 2 next week for the year's third major championship; the 124th U.S. Open.
