Mark Hubbard set himself up well for the rest of the year by taking advantage of his one and only appearance this year in a Signature Event.

Homeless Hubbs took T-4th a few weeks ago at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The event was cut short to 54 holes due to rain, which means he didn’t get a chance to go after his first career PGA Tour victory on Sunday.

The 34-year-old journeyman has won on the Mackenzie Tour and Korn Ferry Tour. He’s got a runner-up on the PGA Tour at the 2019 Houston Open.

Hubbard doesn’t always rack up top-10 finishes, but he makes lots of cuts. He’s 4-for-4 in that regard in 2024, including T-20th at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The San Jose State alum is teeing it up for the second time at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. Hubbard looked good in his debut last year, carding 68-70-69-66 en route to T-18th.

It was a steady week where he gained 12 more spots on the leaderboard on Sunday.

Hubbard was second in the field for the week in Strokes Gained: Approach (8.49). He tied for first in greens in regulation (81.94%) and made three of four sand saves.

Last season on the PGA Tour, Hubbard was top-50 in several SG categories. He was 13th in SG: Approach (.748), 41st in SG: Putting (.402), and 26th in SG: Total (.902).

Those stats weren’t built on a small sample size. In fact, Hubbard set a PGA Tour record by playing in 39 events in the 2022-23 season.

He didn’t qualify for the field last week at Riviera, so maybe some forced rest will do some good for Hubbard in Mexico.
