OWGR: 73rd. FedEx Cup: 57th. Keith Mitchell. MexicoOpen/PowerRank/7. 7

Keith Mitchell would love to win this week as he prepares for next week’s Cognizant Classic where he’s a former champion.

This will be his Mexico Open at Vidanta debut.

Mitchell heads south of the border in good stead after T-17th in his last start a couple weeks ago at the WM Phoenix Open. He seems like a man of the people, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that he played well at the biggest party in golf.

Mitchell also played well early in 2024 with nice finishes at the Sony Open in Hawaii (T-30th) and The American Express (T-9th).

The former Georgia Bulldog posted three top-five finishes in 2023.

Mitchell is comfortable with the driver right now as evidenced by ranking fourth this season on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (.771). He’s also 20th in SG: Tee-to-Green (.964) and 21st in SG: Total (.972).

Mitchell is giving himself lots of birdie chances sitting eighth in greens in regulation (75.64%). The 32-year-old is second in average approach proximity from the fairway (27’3”).

He took time over the offseason away from the course to see where he could improve.

“Definitely looked at some historical data and some stats to see where I needed to improve,” Mitchell was transcribed by ASAP Sports at the Sony. “Good friend of mine, Mookie DeMoss, helped me a lot there. I wish he was coaching me, but he's coaching at the University of Georgia now.”

It’s not sweater weather this week for Cashmere Keith, but I still see him staying cool, calm, and collected en route to his second top-10 of the season.
