Mexico Open Update Rank 5. 5. OWGR: 75th. FedEx Cup: 47th. Stephan Jaeger

Stephan Jaeger has a pair of top-20s in two appearances at the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

The German-American posted T-15th (69-71-64-70) in 2022 and T-18th (65-71-70-67) in 2023.

Last year, Jaeger was third in the field for the week in Strokes Gained: Approach (7.681) and seventh in SG: Around-the-Green (3.865). If he made anything on the greens, it could have been a really special week.

No one in this week’s field at Vidanta Vallarta has won an event this season. Few have even contended in an event. Jaeger is one of them.

The 34-year-old logged his best-ever finish based on Official World Golf Ranking points earned when he finished T-3rd last month at the Farmers Insurance Open. Jaeger was the leader after Friday and is now probably wishing that event got cut short to 54 holes like Pebble Beach.

Nonetheless, it was his best-ever finish on the PGA Tour. Previous was solo fifth at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Jaeger has won six times in his career on the KFT. You would think that would translate to the next level at some point.

He’s proficient at picking up top-20s, top-30s, and making a consistent paycheck. Getting in the mix at Torrey Pines, even if he didn’t win, was a new experience that will boost him when the opportunity knocks again.

The talent in this week’s field isn’t too far removed from some of the KFT fields Jaeger used to beat up. I could see this being the week he gets it done or at least improves on his career best.
