1. OWGR: 1st. Best PGA finish: T-2nd (2023). Scottie Scheffler. 2024PGAChampionship/PowerRank/1

Scottie Scheffler is a new father, but he’s been making his fellow competitors his children for months now.

The undisputed top golfer in the world arrives at Valhalla Golf Club seeking the second leg of the career Grand Slam and his third major title. Scheffler’s got it done twice at Augusta National. Now it’s time to get it done at another major championship venue.

While Scheffler may have had his sleep cut down recently due to the arrival of his baby, he at least got to kick his feet up and rest last week while most of the top PGA Tour players were teeing it up at the Wells Fargo Championship.

We last saw Scheffler compete at the RBC Heritage where, of course, he won. It was the Texan’s fourth win of the season and fourth in five starts. The lone exception was a T-2nd finish where he missed a short putt that would’ve forced a playoff.

It’s truly spectacular stuff.

His quote en quote “worst” finish in 2024 was T-17th at The American Express. If I were any of those 16 golfers who beat him that week, I’d print out the leaderboard and frame it.

While Scheffler hasn’t won a PGA Championship, he came close last year by finishing T-2nd and two shots back.

That was the eighth of what’s now 10 top-10s in 16 major starts. Scheffler’s made 14 cuts and has finished T-23rd or higher when making the weekend. He’s finished T-4th, T-8th, MC, and T-2nd at the PGA since debuting in 2020.

The 27-year-old this season ranks first on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (2.851), SG: Tee-to-Green (2.835), and SG: Approach (1.398). He’s got work to do in SG: Off-the-Tee (.957), only ranking second.

It’s miraculous he’s on his torrid stretch given that he’s down at 95th in SG: Putting (.016). That aspect of his game has improved in recent weeks and is a factor in his slew of high finishes turning into a slew of wins.

While I understand some may be hesitant to bet on Scheffler or game him in a fantasy lineup due to a lack of value, it’d be foolish to slot anyone else at No. 1 in this week’s power rankings.
