PGA Tour Announces New PGA Tour Enterprises Board

The PGA Tour has announced the formation of the 13-member PGA Tour Enterprises Board.  It includes nine members from the PGA Tour and four from SSG ( Strategic Sports Group). The 13-member board will lead commercial activities of the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour Enterprises Board’s focus, according to a statement released by the PGA Tour, will be on fan engagement and growth, developing new media, sponsorship and commercial opportunities.

PGA Tour player representatives include the current Player Directors of the PGA Tour, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, and Tiger Woods. PGA Tour management representatives are Commissioner Jay Monahan and Joe Gorder, who currently is an Independent Director on the PGA TOUR Policy Board and is also Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at Valero Energy Corp. Monahan will be the CEO of PGA Tour Enterprises, and Woods will become Vice Chairman of the Board.

Joe Ogilvie, a retired PGA Tour player, who is a partner in Wallace Capital, has been appointed Director Liaison by the PGA Tour Player Directors. He will serve on both the PGA Tour Policy Board and the PGA Tour Enterprises board.  

Ogilvie is a graduate of Duke University with a degree in economics.  He played on the PGA Tour for 15 years,  winning the US Bank Championship in Milwaukee and four Nationwide Tour events. Ogilvie made 399 PGA Tour career starts. He currently lives in Austin, Texas.

The four members of SSG to serve on the PGA Tour Enterprises board were appointed by the members of the Strategic Sports Group. They are:

  • John W. Henry, Principal, Fenway Sports Group; Manager, Strategic Sports Group;  
  • Arthur M. Blank, Co-Founder, Home Depot; Owner and Chairman, AMB Sports and Entertainment (Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Drive GC, PGA TOUR Superstore);
  • Andrew B. Cohen, Chief Investment Officer and Co-Founder, Cohen Private Ventures; Vice Chairman, New York Mets;
  • Sam Kennedy, Partner/CEO, Fenway Sports Group; President & CEO, Boston Red Sox.

"Today’s announcement is another milestone for our organization, as I believe we have arrived at a PGA TOUR Enterprise’s Board of Directors with the right composition, expertise and balance necessary to take our organization into the future,” said Monahan in a statement from the PGA Tour. “Our current and former players will provide essential insight into our members’ priorities and needs.“

Monahan also cited the expertise and success of the four businessmen in sports management.

SSG also issued a statement on the creation of the new board, saying:  

“Our role on the Enterprises board will focus on hearing Player Director ideas and working alongside them to ensure the sport’s commercial growth occurs in a way that creates the best possible product for fans,” said Henry. “All of us at Strategic Sports Group see a bright future for the PGA TOUR.”

The new PGA Tour, Inc., Policy Board, which oversees PGA Tour Enterprises, will now include: Player Directors – Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods; Liaison Director – Joe Ogilvie; PGA TOUR Commissioner – Jay Monahan; Independent Directors – Chairman Edward Herlihy, Jimmy Dunne, Mark Flaherty, Mary Meeker, Joe Gorder; PGA of America Director – John Lindert.
