The PGA Tour returns to the iconic TPC Sawgrass this week for the 50th playing of THE PLAYERS Championship.

After a handful of signature events already and with major season right around the corner, the big events are beginning to come thick and fast. This week, it's the turn of the PGA Tour's flagship event, THE PLAYERS Championship.

An elite field of players will return to one of golf's most recognizable venues for the chance to compete for the biggest prize purse of the year. Defending PLAYERS Champion and World No.1, Scottie Scheffler, returns to TPC Sawgrass as the clear favorite to retain the famous trophy following his dominant victory at last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Scheffler will attempt to become the first player in the history of this famous championship to win in consecutive years. 2019 PLAYERS Champion, Rory McIlroy, and 2021 winner, Justin Thomas, are just a few of the big names in action this week who will look to deny Scheffler in his quest to conquer TPC Sawgrass for the second year running.

One of the best fields of the year is set to compete at one of the game's most famous venues this week, and with the famous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass awaiting this week's challengers, you know we are in store for another year of drama and excitement at the PGA Tour's marquee event.

It's time for the 50th edition of THE PLAYERS Championship and here is everything you need to know about this week's championship including, tee times, field breakdown, this week's prize purse, and how to take in all of the action this week from TPC Sawgrass.

144 players are set to tee it up in the 50th PLAYERS Championship including, seven of the last eight PLAYERS Champions, and nine of the world's Top 10 players in the OWGR. 2022 PLAYERS Champion, Cameron Smith, will unfortunately not return to TPC Sawgrass this week following his departure to the LIV Tour in 2022.

There was some hope that we may see Tiger Woods compete this week following his unfortunate withdrawal at the Genesis Invitational last month, but the two-time PLAYERS Champion elected to bypass this week with the upcoming Masters on the near horizon.

PLAYERS Championship: 2024 Prize purse and winner's share

The 50th edition of THE PLAYERS Championship will feature a massive $25 million purse in 2024; the biggest prize purse on this year's schedule. The winner at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday is set to walk away with a whopping $4.5 million prize. Including this year's champion, the Top 5 finishers at TPC Sawgrass this week are set to earn over $1 million in prize earnings.

THE PLAYERS Championship format: Is there a cut in 2024?

Even with the biggest prize purse on the schedule for 2024, THE PLAYERS Championship will feature a full field with a cut at the halfway point. While this has been the norm at TPC Sawgrass over the years, this differs from this season's signature events which have either had a reduced cut in a limited field or no cut at all.

Following 36 holes of traditional stroke play action, the Top 65 players and ties in this year's 144-man field will advance through to the weekend at this year's PLAYERS Championship.
