1. US Open

And the best major of the year (so far) goes to the US Open, which had one of the best finishes of all time.

I think any golf fan would’ve loved to see Rory McIlroy hold on and win his first major in 10 years at the historic Pinehurst No. 2, but McIlroy had one of the worst collapses in golf history. With a multiple-shot lead with only a few holes to play, McIlroy missed two gimme putts, which is what ultimately did him in.

Bryson DeChambeau then took advantage of those missed putts by coming in clutch at the end of his round, but even he struggled at times during the final round. DeChambeau had a solid lead heading into the final round, but it quickly evaporated thanks to McIlroy's early success on the greens.

But once McIlroy left the door open, DeChambeau slammed the door shut by making one of the best pars I have ever seen on the 72nd. His remarkable up and down out of a bunker 50 yards short of the green will be a shot that will be remembered forever. You really couldn't have asked for a better finish.

But the thing that made this tournament my favorite is the course itself. It played extremely difficult but not too difficult as DeChambeau was able to win at 6-under. And you won't see the PGA Tour play another course like Pinehurst because of it's "rough." Usually, we see long and thick rough for US Opens, but this year's Open brought a unique style of sand and wiregrass, which tripped up nearly every pro throughout the tournament.

So the combination of the unique and difficult course with the memorable finish makes the US Open the best major of the year... so far.
