Superstar Caitlin Clark brings court skills to the golf course
Caitlin Clark has become a sensation as she readies for her rookie season in the WNBA. She is the Division I NCAA all-time leading scorer in college basketball. She has continued her rise as she was recently selected as the 1st overall pick in the WNBA draft, going to the Indiana Fever.
Caitlin Clark can draw a crowd both on the court and on the golf course
Last year, at the John Deere Classic, she played with PGA Tour rookie at the time, Ludvig Aberg, and Zach Johnson, an Iowa native. She competed with Aberg during the front nine and with Johnson on the back nine. During the tournament, Clark and her team finished with a score of 5-under-par.
Clark has been playing golf from a young age with her father. She also attended the Solheim Cup in 2017 which took place at Des Moines Golf and Country Club
Clark was joined by large crowds that followed her throughout the Pro-Am. At the time, Johnson was asked about Clark's impact on Women's Sports compared to that of Tiger Woods in the game of golf. In an interview with PGATour.com last year, Johnson said, "I’m not smart enough to know that.”
“I know what the numbers say. I mean, more people watched the NCAA women’s championship than the men’s. So, I don’t know what the parallels would be, but ratings are ratings. More than anything, I am just in awe.”
This past month, Clark joined legends Billie Jean King and Annika Sorenstam as a Gainbridge Brand Ambassador. Gainbridge is a financial services company. Clark is slated to compete at the Pro-Am, The Annika driven by Gainbridge, this season, schedule permitting. The tournament takes place in November this season.
Due to Clark's popularity, women's basketball has broken many television ratings records. If she is able to compete in another Pro-Am, she'll more than likely break even more viewing records which is good for any sport she participates in.
