Team USA Olympic golf roster is set, US Open winner snubbed

This season there was an added bonus for having a strong performance on tour. Every one of the players were competing for a chance to compete for their country at the summer Olympics in Paris, starting at the end of July. The United States Olympic roster is now set.

All four players representing Team USA at the Olympics are major champions.

Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa will represent the country this summer. They all met the criteria ranking in the top 15 in the world. The top 60 in the world gain a spot to compete, with up to four allowed to play for each country.

Scheffler, who is ranked #1, has won five times on the tour this year, including the 2024 Masters. Morikawa is the only one of the four who has not won this season.

For Xander Schauffele, he will look to defend his gold medal-winning performance from the 2020 Olympics in Japan. He became the first American to win a gold medal in golf since 1900 (golf was not a part of the Olympics from 1905 to 2016). He scored a final round of 67 to take home the gold.

If Schauffele medals during these games, he'd become the second male golfer to medal and win a major championship in the same year. Henrik Stenson accomplished the feat in 2016 when he took home the silver medal at the Rio, Brazil, Olympics.

One notable player who missed out on an Olympic spot for the USA is recent US Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau. This is despite an impressive campaign in the major tournaments, highlighted by the win at Pinehurst No. 2.

DeChambeau has risen to #10 in the world rankings but was behind five other Americans and therefore did not qualify. He was certainly hurt by his play on the LIV Tour as the OWGR (Official World Golf Ranking) does not award points for play on LIV.

All four American golfers will have their work cut out for them at the Olympics with the likes of Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry also representing their respective countries this summer. However, it would come as no surprise if any of the four American-born golfers took home the gold.
