After months of waiting and anticipation, the first major on the golfing calendar finally arrived this week. The Masters, as it always does, delivered once again.

The No. 1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, demonstrated once again why he continues to hold the top spot in OWGR rankings and most people's golf power rankings in general. The 2022 Masters champion followed a terrific bogey-free opening round of 6-under 66 with rounds of 72 and 71 on Friday and Saturday at Augusta National. Scheffler's 1-under 71 on moving day ensured the Texan would sleep on the narrow overnight lead.

Scheffler would attempt to hold back the challengers during the final round with the two-time PLAYERS Champion looking to add a second green jacket to his closet. Big names including two-time major champion, Collin Morikawa, found themselves just a shot or two back of Scheffler's lead going into the final round of this year's Masters.

Following both a putter change and coach change, Morikawa found himself back in contention on the big stage thanks to rounds of 71 and 70 on the first two days, and a phenomenal 3-under 69 on moving day; the second-best round of the day.

Max Homa and Ludvig Aberg, two players looking for their first major, including one playing in his first major, were also well within striking distance of Scheffler's lead going into the final round of this year's Masters. Other big names including 2020 U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau, perennial major contender, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Smith, and Patrick Cantlay were also well-positioned to make a run at the green jacket.

Competing for one of the largest prize purses of the year, competition was sure to be fierce during what was shaping up to be another compelling and dramatic conclusion at the Masters. Let's take a look at the eye-opening purse for the year's first major; including the massive winner's payout at Augusta National.

The Masters purse 2024: Winner's share and total prize purse

The Masters Tournament purse for its 88th edition is set at a massive $20 million for 2024. This is an increase from last year's Masters purse of $18 million and a handsome $5 million increase from the 2022 purse which was set at $15 million. The Masters champion for 2024, Scottie Scheffler, will take home an eye-opening $3.6 million winner's share; a little under 20% of the overall prize purse for the year's first major. This is also up from last year's Masters where winner Jon Rahm earned a $3.2 million winner's share.
