Phoenix Open/Power Rank/2. 2. OWGR: 19th. FedEx Cup: 14th. Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas has carded low round after low round in his career at TPC Scottsdale. Will this be the year those red numbers equate to a win?

It’s tough for Thomas or anyone to get their hands on the trophy when two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler is standing in the way.

With that said, JT appears to be rounding into form after a disappointing 2023. He hasn’t won since the 2022 PGA Championship, so you know he’s hungry to get back into the winner’s circle.

We’ll start with his course history. The former Alabama Crimson Tide owns four top-10s in nine starts at the WM Phoenix Open, all of which came in the last five years.

The high-water mark came in 2019 when Thomas posted 64-66-68-72 to finish three off the pace. A year later netted T-3rd thanks to 68-68-69-65 to once again finish three back.

Even in a down year, JT still shined here last year. He carded 71-68-67-65 to end up six back in solo fourth.

“I just like the golf course,” Thomas was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021. “I come in knowing that I don't need my best stuff to win, which I think is huge. But I also know that I can do what I did the last 15 holes today, or whatever it is, 14, 15 holes. I really feel like I can reel off nine birdies in an 11- or 12-hole stretch, but I also understand and respect the golf course and kind of take what it gives me.”

Thomas comes into this week on a streak of five top-sixes. In 2024, he took T-3rd at The American Express and T-6th last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The 30-year-old leads the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green (2.881) and is second in SG: Around-the-Green (1.017).
