OWGR: 1st. FedEx Cup: 5th. Scottie Scheffler. Phoenix Open/Power Rank/1. 1

Who else but Scottie Scheffler could hold down the top spot this week?

The world No. 1 is seeking a three-peat at the WM Phoenix Open. In 2022, the Texan fired 68-71-62-67 to reach 16-under and enter a playoff where he beat Patrick Cantlay on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff. That was his first PGA Tour win. It opened the floodgates as he’s now a six-time champ.

He worked his way back from third place to start the day and made four birdies in his final six holes on Sunday.

Last year saw Scheffler card 68-64-68-65 (-19) to win in two in regulation over Nick Taylor.

He led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (9.482) and scrambling (87.5%) while finishing third in greens in regulation (77.78%).

“I love the environment here. It's a lot of fun to play,” Scheffler was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2023. “I think the firmness of the golf course really suits me. Having the ability to play a lot of different shots. Hit it high, hit it low.”

He also took T-7th (67-65-66-70) at TPC Scottsdale in 2021.

Scheffler has flashed solid form so far in 2024. The 27-year-old took T-5th at The Sentry, T-17th at The American Express, and T-6th last week at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He’s eighth on the PGA Tour in SG: Total (1.818), fourth in SG: Tee-to-Green (2.112), and fifth in SG: Approach (1.595).
