Xander Schauffele seemed poised to repeat his 2020 Gold Medal performance in Paris. He had the 54-hole co-lead entering Sunday. He soon, though, could not find his golf swing and shot a 73. He missed the podium altogether finishing in ninth place.

Entering Sunday, the two-time major winner this season was primed to at the very least medal. Before the final round, he had averaged 5.3 birdies per round and had made an impressive eagle on the Par 5, 14th on Saturday. It was an impressive 26-foot putt which helped him enter Sunday as the co-leader and one of the favorites.

"Just going to try and keep touch. You need to be in position to win on that back nine and try and fall on some previous experience and get it done", Schauffele told reporters before Sunday's final round.

His final round though did not go to plan. Xander Schauffele only capitalized on three birdie tries and only one on the back nine. He bogeyed both the 12th and 13th holes before disaster struck on the par 4, 16th. He would make his only double bogey of the week; taking him out of contention for the Bronze Medal.

It may be only a slight setback for Schauffele as he is having arguably his best season on tour. He currently is in second place in the FedEx Cup Standings behind Gold medal winner, Scottie Scheffler. In addition to his two major titles, he also has 12 top 10s on the year to date.

There is now only one tournament left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs are set to begin. The playoffs will start at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 15th. If Schauffele wishes to overtake Scheffler he'll have to put the Olympics behind him real quick.
