Rory McIlroy made all sorts of history with his victory at The Masters on Sunday.
It didn't come without its drama, of course, as the Northern Irishman nearly suffered yet another historic collapse at Augusta National, losing a four-shot lead with nine holes to play before defeating Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff with a beautiful birdie at the 18th.
First and foremost, of course, the Northern Irishman became just the sixth player ever to complete the career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. He also collected the biggest check in tournament history.
McIlroy made even more Masters history by becoming the first player ever to win the coveted Green Jacket despite making four double bogeys throughout the week, carding two during Thursday's first round on the 15th and 17th holes and another pair on Sunday at the 1st and 13th.
Craig Stadler held the previous record, making three doubles en route to his victory in 1982. Stadler also needed a playoff to secure his win, defeating Dan Pohl.
Along that same line, Rory was also the first since Nick Faldo in 1990 to emerge victorious after making a double at the opening hole. Faldo also needed a playoff to win that year, defeating Raymond Floyd on the second extra hole to win the second of his three Masters titles.
Faldo's victory was also historic in the sense that he was the defending champion that year and became only the second player to win back-to-back Masters, joining Nicklaus, who took the second and third of his record six titles in 1965 and 1966.
Tiger became the third member of the club with back-to-back wins in 2001 and 2002, and McIlroy will obviously have a chance to join these three legends a year from now. But as it stands now, he is not the favorite at Augusta in 2026.
2026 Masters betting odds
The betting odds for next year's Masters released, and McIlroy has been given the second-shortest odds to win at +425.
The favorite is none other than 2022 and 2024 champion Scottie Scheffler, who had nowhere close to his best stuff over the final three days at Augusta this past week and still finished in solo fourth at 8-under, three shots out of the Rory-Rose playoff.
The world No. 1 is getting +360 odds to win his third Green Jacket in five years.
Xander Schauffele owns the third-shortest odds at +1100, while Ludvig Åberg, who was briefly in the mix on Sunday, sits in fourth at +1200.
Bryson DeChambeau, who played in the final pairing with Rory but struggled to a 3-over 75 to fall into a tie for fifth, is also in a tie for fifth here at +1400. Fellow LIV Golf competitor Jon Rahm also stands at +1400.
