Ryder Cup set for astonishing return to popular locale
With the Presidents Cup firmly in the rearview mirror, attention has already turned towards 2025 as Bethpage Black prepares to host the next highly anticipated Ryder Cup on U.S. soil. Keegan Bradley will captain an American side for the first time in the famous competition, and the Americans are eager to reclaim the trophy on home ground after an extremely disappointing showing in Rome last time around.
New York crowds will undoubtedly have to pay a hefty price to witness the action live next year as the historic competition is contested at Bethpage for the very first time. In 2027, the biennial competition will return to Ireland for a second time as Adare Manor Golf Club in County Limerick hosts its first Ryder Cup. The U.S. team will once again attempt to end a winless drought on foreign soil that dates all the way back to the 1993 Ryder Cup.
2029 will see the competition return to the United States and Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota; with the venue set to become the first in the U.S. to host a Ryder Cup for a second time. Hazeltine previously hosted in 2016 when the U.S. got the better of the European Team by a 17 to 11 margin.
Popular locale revealed as future Ryder Cup host
In what would assuredly be a hugely popular decision amongst both players and fans alike, according to reports by Spanish news outlet, Ten Golf, the Ryder Cup will return to Spain in 2031 for the first time since the 1997 Ryder Cup held at the famous Valderrama Golf Club.
With France and Italy both having hosted each of the last two competitions on European soil for the first time in their nation's history, 2031 would see the Ryder Cup return to the country that hosted the first Ryder Cup in Continental Europe. Before the 1997 event at Valderrama, every European-hosted Ryder Cup had been contested in the United Kingdom with the competition not having adopted its current format until 1979 when the United States competed against a European Team in the Ryder Cup for the first time. Prior to that, the Ryder Cup, which began in 1927, was a competition between the United States and Great Britain until 1971, and the U.S. and Great Britain & Ireland until 1977.
The report suggests that Camiral Golf and Wellness, formerly PGA Catalunya, is a heavy favorite to host the competition in 2031. The locale was amongst those being considered to host last year's Ryder Cup (previously set to be played in 2022 before being pushed back a year due to the pandemic) prior to Marco Simone being named as the host for the 2023 competition.
If this comes to fruition it would be massive for a nation that has produced so many great players throughout the sport's illustrious history including current superstar and two-time major champion Jon Rahm. The last time Spain hosted a Ryder Cup the great Seve Ballesteros captained his European side to glory over the Americans at Valderrama over 25 years ago.
