The Sentry payout distribution 2025: Purse, winner's prize money
The Sentry in Hawaii once again marked the start of a new PGA Tour season with the year's first of eight signature events hosting some of the best players in the world at one of the most scenic locations the PGA plays all year.
Host of the event since 1999, Kapalua's Plantation Course has seen its fair share of low-score champions over the years, and this year's event was gearing up for more of the same with players like Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa setting an incredible pace. Both Matsuyama and Morikawa produced astonishing 11-under 62s on Moving Day at The Sentry that ensured both would take a significant advantage over the rest of the competition into the final round of this year's event following record-equaling and record-breaking performances at the Plantation Course over the first three rounds.
Hideki Matsuyama would attempt to pull further away from Morikawa and the rest of the competition on his way to winning on the PGA Tour for the third time since last February. At 27-under par through his first 54 holes at the Plantation Course, the 2021 Masters champion recorded the lowest tally through 54 holes since the event moved to Kapalua in 1999, per PGA Tour Communications.
Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa, who matched the previous 54-hole record at 26-under through his first three rounds, would hope to chase down Hideki en route to his first official win on the PGA Tour since the 2023 ZOZO Championship. Whether it was Matsuyama, Morikawa, or any of the chasers looking to capitalize on any mistakes by the front-runners, whoever emerged triumphant would come away with a handsome share of this year's massive purse at The Sentry. But exactly how much was on the line in 2025? Let's take a look at this year's purse, the winner's share, and the complete payout distribution breakdown by finishing position for the season-opening event in Maui.
The Sentry purse 2025: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for the year's first signature event is set at a whopping $20 million in 2025 with this year's champion at The Sentry taking home an eye-opening $3.6 million winner's share; a little under 20% of this year's total purse in Hawaii. The massive prize purse that The Sentry will divvy out to its field in 2025 matches last year's purse at Kapalua and remains in line with the massive sums that were divvied out to the majority of signature event fields throughout 2024, including the RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, and Travelers Championship, to name a few. The lucrative prize purse at The Sentry's 2025 event will rank amongst the largest purses on the schedule this season.

As was the case throughout the 2024 season, the signature events on the PGA Tour schedule in 2025 will offer some of the most lucrative prize purses of the season and that is no different at the season-opening event in Hawaii with this year's The Sentry rewarding its field handsomely. Each of the top 3 finishers at the season's first signature event will take home a seven-figure payday while finishing inside the top 10 at Kapalua will earn at least $500k in prize money. Meanwhile, each of the top 37 finishers in this limited no-cut field will take home a six-figure prize. Even finishing in 59th is worth $48k; further illustrating just how lucrative earning a spot in these elite events can be.
In addition to walking away with the first big prize of the new season along with all of the other perks that come with winning an event on the PGA Tour, the 2025 champion at The Sentry in Hawaii will also earn a crucial 700 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race to East Lake and the 2025 Tour Championship later this year.
The race to earn a spot in the year's next signature event will begin next week as the PGA Tour remains in Hawaii for the 2025 Sony Open at the famous Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.
