TGL Preseason Power Rankings

5. New York Golf Club (Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler)
It may seem a little wrong to have the number two golfer in the world right now on the second-worst team in the TGL, but Xander is going to have to carry a lot of the load on this team. It'll be hard for Xander to follow up his two-major year in 2024, and it's entirely possible that trying to balance staying at the top of the PGA Tour and lead his team in TGL may be too much for Xander.
Matt Fitzpatrick is someone that I am excited to watch in 2025, and someone that could easily establish himself as a strong player for New York. He had a pedestrian 2024 compared to the couple of seasons before where, for the first time, it really felt like he reached the heights that everyone expected him to when he made his way onto the 2016 Ryder Cup team. Now that his thumb injury has healed, I expect Fitz to come back in a strong way in 2025, and that should lend itself to strong play for New York.
Cameron Young is one of the few golfers whose place of birth actually lines up with the city his team represents, so maybe his New York pride will drive his play in TGL matches. Young is a player that I liked when he first started to rack up high finishes on the tour, but he just hasn't been able to break through for a win yet, so I don't really have high expectations for him moving forward right now. The last piece of the team is Rickie Fowler, which would've been super cool if TGL came around in 2015 (same thing can be said for Kisner on Jupiter Links). Rickie is still a solid enough player, and has enough star power to draw more eyes to the matches New York plays in, but I'm going to assume that Rickie will be in that borderline 3/4 spot on the team, and won't be playing every match.
