TGL Preseason Power Rankings

Before TGL, the new indoor golf league started by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, gets underway on January 7th, let's see how the 6 teams in the league stack up against each other.

4. Atlanta Drive GC (Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover)

Lucas Glover, at the time the TGL rosters were announced, made a lot of sense. Glover ended the 2023 season with two wins, all the momentum, a legitimate shot of making the Ryder Cup team, and his best season since 2009, when he won the U.S. Open, according to DataGolf. He was named as a member of Atlanta Drive GC, and if the TGL had actually started last year, like it was originally scheduled to, Lucas Glover wouldn't stick out as much in this crop of players as he does now. If there's as much player movement as there is on LIV, then Glover may find himself on the chopping block soon.

Patrick Cantlay versus the 40-second shot clock may be the most heated rivalry that is generated out of TGL. It may not have been the best idea to put a guy who has been called out by multiple players (including another player in TGL!) for slow play in the inaugural class of players in a league with a clearly defined shot clock.

While Cantlay vs. Clock may be the best rivalry, number 2 might be Billy Horschel and Justin Thomas battling each other to establish dominance on the team. Both Horschel and Thomas have that alpha dog instinct and fire to their games, and I could see a potential rift arising if the two of them can't decide who the true number 1 of the team is. Atlanta as a whole is probably the hardest team to predict because there are a lot of different factors that will be riding a knife's edge all season, so let's stick them in the middle of the rankings and check back in later once we get a better feel.
