The Sentry Winners & Full List of Past Champions
The Sentry, previously known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions in recent years, is officially underway. As has been the case since 1986, when the event was moved up on the calendar to January for the first time, this historic event ushers in the new PGA Tour season.
A coveted spot in the season-opening event was reserved strictly for tournament winners from the previous season throughout the majority of its famed history until changes were implemented a few seasons ago to also include players who qualified for the season-ending Tour Championship the previous year. The 2024 playing of The Sentry in beautiful Kapalua, Hawaii, welcomed a field of 60 players to not only the first event of the new season but also to what is the first of eight signature events on the schedule in 2025.
The Tournament of Champions boasts an illustrious list of champions from Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player to Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods, some of the greatest to ever play have lifted the famed trophy. Chris Kirk will look to become just the seventeenth player in the tournament's rich history to have won the event on more than one occasion following his thrilling victory at The Sentry last year. Meanwhile, others will be hoping to make their own history and join the illustrious list of champions before them. Let's take a look at every champion of this prestigious event since its inaugural playing back in 1953.

The great Jack Nicklaus won The Sentry five times during his illustrious career, the most by a player in tournament history. Four others won on three different occasions, Gene Littler (1955,1956,1957), who won in three consecutive years from 1955-1957, Arnold Palmer (1962,1965,1966), Tom Watson (1979,1980,1984), and Stuart Appleby (2004,2005,2006) who, like Littler before him, won back-to-back-to-back from 2004-2006.
Only eleven others in the history of this great event have won on more than one occasion, Frank Beard, Don January, Gary Player, Lanny Wadkins, Tom Kite, Steve Elkington, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Geoff Ogilvy, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Thomas who became the latest to join the illustrious list of multiple champions after winning for a second time in 2020.
