Tiger Woods had that Big Cat twinkle in his eye when he refused to disclose whether or not he was playing in the PNC Championship during the Hero World Challenge telecast on Sunday.  But now, it’s official. Team Woods will play next week. The PGA Tour made it official with a tweet. Or an X or whatever it’s called now.

When Team Woods tees it up, it will be the first time Tiger has played since he missed the cut at the British Open in July.

Tiger Woods has played only five events in 2024 which amounted to 11 official rounds.

“I’m very excited to head back to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie,” Woods said, according to Sports Illustrated. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you're surrounded by friends and family.”

The PNC Championship is Dec. 21-22, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, and there will be 20 teams in the mix.

New to the tournament this year are Fred Couples and stepson Hunter Hannemann, and Trevor Immelman and his son Jacob.

Padraig Harrington, John Daly, David Duval, and Vijay Singh are also in the PNC field according to Sports Illustrated.

According to the Associated Press also returning will be 13-year-old Will McGee, the son of Annika Sorenstam. Nelly Korda will partner with her father, Petr Korda, who won the 1998 Australian Open, a Grand Slam event.

Because it is a PGA Tour Champions tournament, Tiger can use a cart, as carts are allowed on that circuit. If he had to walk all 36 holes for the exhibition event, no one knows if he would play.  However, he doesn’t have to walk next week. He can ride.

The format for the PNC Championship is a scramble. Each player hits a tee shot, and the team picks the best drive and uses that location for their second shots. They do the same thing until each hole is finished.

Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, are defending champions. They have won the event three times.  Bernhard has won two additional versions of the tournament with his son Stefan.
