He was an NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver. Tim Brown, played in the NFL from 1988 to 2004 and broke many records along the way as primarily a member of the Oakland Raiders. Now he has turned his attention to the world of golf.
The former receiver has been golfing since his playing days and has become a mainstay at several Pro-Ams and charity golf tournaments throughout the last few years.
At the American Century Championship a year ago, the athlete displayed his athletic abilities by acing the Par 3 12th hole to win a boat at the tournament. The boat was worth over $200,000. It was a moment that Brown will probably not forget.
He hit the shot from 143 yards with a nine iron to secure the boat. He finished the round with 17 points. The Hall of Famer spoke with reporters about the hole in one saying:
“I didn’t hit it the way I wanted to. I started to complain, then it started to go towards the hole. It took a couple holes to calm down. I think I double bogeyed the next two holes.”
Brown also has taken part in former Raider Fred Biletnikoff's annual charity golf tournament. The event is held to help teens who are in distress and suffering from domestic abuse.
Tim Brown himself has hosted his own charity tournament every year.
The 9-1-1 Golf Classic has been held since 1992 and is used by the former NFLer as a benefit for children all over the United States. Brown took over the event in 1995 with another former Raider, Bob Golic.
Brown will be seen this March at another golf tournament. The Pro FTB will take place from March 21-23 in Texas. It will feature Brown and other famous NFL players such as Marshall Faulk and Kordell Stewart.
Brown and others will participate in 54 holes with no cuts occurring during the tournament. The tournament will have two practice rounds and a pro-am, in addition to the actual play of three rounds.
Tim Brown was arguably one of the best receivers in NFL history. While a member of the Raiders, they won four division titles. Now it seems he is joining another sports community as a player to be taken seriously.
The announced purse for the Pro FTB is over $400,000. Look for Brown to be moving up the leaderboard as he aims to win even more bragging rights over his peers this March.
