The PGA Tour heads to the great state of Texas this week for the Valero Texas Open. You can say that this is the Valspar Championship of Texas.

Like Copperhead, the TPC San Antonio is one of the better courses on the PGA Tour, but given where the Valero Texas Open falls on the schedule this is one where the majority of the top players skip.

There are a couple of reasons why that is. One: TPC San Antonio doesn’t lend itself to a great tune up for Augusta in two weeks. Two: The Shell Houston Open is next week and is played on the Golf Club of Houston. A lot of the players find that is a better tune up for Augusta.

Three: The Arnold Palmer Invitational was last week which featured some of best golfers on the planet. You typically don’t want to burn yourself out playing four straight weeks especially when the forth and final tournament is The Masters.

Those are some of the reasons why this isn’t the best of fields, but nevertheless this is fun tournament played on a great course and it’s still a pretty solid as you will see with the 2015 Valero Texas Open power rankings featured down below.
