2015 Valero Texas Open Fantasy Sleeper Picks
By Danny Norris
After four weeks in Florida, the PGA Tour moves to San Antonio, Texas this week for the 2015 Valero Texas Open. This is a tournament that doesn’t boast the strongest of fields, but it’s usually one of your better tournaments played on one of the best courses on the PGA Tour in the TPC San Antonio.

Given that this isn’t the strongest of fields, decent sleeper picks are hard to come by this week. With that said, I do have three that I like this week. It isn’t the normal amount, but I just wanted to keep it to golfers I like instead of throwing in a couple of flyer picks for the sake of it.
Fredrik Jacobson– As I mentioned in the power rankings, there’s not many golfers who have played TPC San Antonio better than Fredrik Jacobson. Last year, Jacobson finished T-16, in 2013: T-15, 2012: T-18, 2011: T-5, and 2010: 2nd.
As a bonus, Jacobson is way below the average and given that he’s so cheap he’s pretty much a must play this week. You would have to say Jacobson is one of the better value plays this week.

John Peterson– John Peterson has made great strides in his second full season on Tour. Last year, Peterson only made six cuts all year. This year, Peterson has already made the cut 11 times. Peterson has been one of the more improved players on Tour this season.
The next step for Peterson is to start playing better on Sunday. In his last four tournaments – where he has made it to Sunday – Peterson is scoring on average 73.75.
At the Farmers Insurance Open, Peterson finished T-27, which is a really quality finish, but he shot a 76 on Sunday. Had he knocked off a couple of strokes he would have finished inside the top 20.
Nevertheless, it has been fun watching Peterson improve and this might be the week where he gets his first top ten of the season. Peterson has made the cut twice in his two career starts and he’s playing better than ever. I’m expecting Peterson to have a pretty high finish this week.
Carl Pettersson– It’s been a year of streaks for Carl Pettersson. Pettersson made the cut in the first four tournaments he played, then missed the cut in his next four tournaments, but has now made the cut in five straight tournaments now. He’ll look to make it six this week at the Valero Texas Open.
What I like about the streak is that there is a lot of variety. He made the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, which is played on very long and very tough Torrey Pines. But, he also made the cut on tight tracks like Rivera and Copperhead. And to top it all off he made the cut at the Honda Classic where conditions were less than ideal.
Pettersson’s finishes aren’t the greatest, but his best finish during this streak was last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he finished T-35. Plus, Pettersson played and finished T-16 last year at the Valero Texas Open.
