Brittany Lincicome’s win at the ANA Inspiration catapulted her up the Rolex rankings from 17 to 6, but Lincicome wasn’t the only player to make a move after the Tour’s first major.  Stacy Lewis and Morgan Pressel both delivered outstanding games at Rancho Mirage.  Lewis, who lost to Lincicome in a heartbreaker of a playoff moved up to 2nd in the rankings and Pressel, who delivered some impressive golf on the Dinah Shore Tournament track, moved up twenty-three spots to number 33 in the rankings.

This is good news for Brittany Lincicome, Stacy Lewis and Morgan Pressel but, combined with Cristie Kerr’s win last week at the Kia Classic, it’s also very good news for Captain Julie Inkster as she puts together Team USA for the 2015 Solheim Cup.

The top US Tour golfers have had a slow start to the 2015 season and during the early season events American fans have been fretting about their team’s prospects for regaining control of the Cup.  Aside from Stacy Lewis, who’s accumulated 4 top-10s — three of the them runner-up finishes — the American heavy hitters just weren’t hitting until last week at the Kia Classic.

Michelle Wie hasn’t missed a cut, but although she had a strong start at the Coates Golf Championship and the Pure Silk-Bahamas she hasn’t shown any signs of warming up that championship game either.  Her turn will come next at the LOTTE Championship.

Jessica Korda, who generally starts her season hot, seems to be following Wie’s pattern, early promise at the Coates and the Pure Silk, but something of a fizzle during the Tour’s spring fling in Asia.

Lexi Thompson, who won the 2014 Kraft Nabisco after an amazing Sunday Shootout with Wie, and who’s generally regarded as the young strength on the US team, has also been slow to get her game going.  Her 7th place finish at the ANA Inspiration was the first sign that Thompson’s game is finally heating up.

Cristie Kerr, who’s ranked 12th and is consistently in the mix on the weekend, showed the game Julie Inkster wants her to bring to the US team when they go to Germany in September.  Kerr’s win at Aviara may have re-energized the American players.  To be sure, Brittany Lincicome, Stacy Lewis and Morgan Pressel all delivered championship games at Rancho Mirage.

Now Michelle Wie and Paula Creamer need to get their games warmed up.  Perhaps the week’s break before the LOTTE Championship will give everyone a chance to get some rest and come back strong at the Ko’Olina Golf Club April 15-18.
