Tiger Woods Will Not Win The Masters

The worse kept secret in golf was finally let out of the bag on Friday when Tiger Woods announced that that he’s going to tee it up this week at The Masters.  The long and sometimes agonizing wait to see if he in fact would be making an appearance is over and now maybe we can focus on the golf.  For Tiger when it comes to the golf there used to never be any concerns, and now there’s nothing but that.  As people debate about his chances to win at Augusta, let me just say this right now.  He can’t.

It’s the first time in my life that I’m saying the great Woods has no chance to win a tournament.  I mean how could we have any confidence in the guy?  He’s done nothing over the past eighteen months to try and prove to us that he is the same player he once was.  Now to come off the rocking chair and tee it up in one of the year’s toughest tournaments, good luck.

Even the most harden Tiger supporter has to waiver a little bit this week, because the only thing that resembles Tiger Woods is the signature that he will sign to check in.  Yes he plays well within the Georgia Pines and if there were any symptoms that resembled the Woods we used to know I’d give him a punchers chance.  I really mean it, all he needs is just one shred of evidence to show that he is the same player and that’s all I’d need.  I have no faith in his driving, his irons, and certainly not in his short game that was almost amateur like the last time we saw him.  Now he’s going to bring that to Augusta?  Come on now let’s get serious.

Tiger has been on hiatus in hopes of rebuilding his game since he showed up at Torrey Pines in February for a few hours.  He said back then that he wouldn’t return until he could compete at the highest level.  Soon as I saw those comments I knew right then and there that he is not the same guy.  He used to come to tournaments to win, not to just compete.  Now as Tiger drives down Magnolia Lane I wonder if he’s coming to the tournament with the big guns or just a peashooter so that he doesn’t miss out on the party.

I’ve said for weeks now that as long he could physically stand up he was going to be at Augusta.  In 2010 when his life was surrounded by drama and controversy, he was still there.  The only time he didn’t show up was last year when his back was in shambles.  So now he may hit a driver fifty yards off line and his short game may belong on a mini golf course, but he’s not going to miss The Masters.  Put that all together and there’s a better chance you’ll see LeBron James and the Cavs lose in the first round of the NBA Playoffs than Tiger winning.

Not only is Tiger’s game as reliable as airline departure times, the competition around him is much better than it has been in previous years.  You have Rory McIlroy who is gunning for the third leg of the “Rory Slam” and the final leg of his own career grand slam.  There’s Jordan Spieth who finishes in the top five every week and is on the verge of winning his second tournament of the yearPatrick Reed has been a bull dog all year, Jimmy Walker has won twice, and let’s not forget about defending champ Bubba Watson, and even fellow lefty Phil Mickelson.  All of these guys for once will be playing against each other and not gunning for Tiger Woods.
