With the salaries coming out before the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational starts, whether or not Rory McIlroy ($11,700) tees it up at Whistling Straits is still up in the air.

McIlroy is the second most expensive golfer which seems fair enough. If McIlroy was completely healthy, this price would be a steal. However, his health is in question and we don’t know if he will even tee it up so, obviously, for me it’s a pass.

If he does play and we start hearing reports that he’s healthy and looking good, then would be the time to reconsider.

Speaking of Spieth, it’s kind of interesting that in two tries at the PGA Championship he hasn’t made the cut. You have to think that streak comes to an end this year.

Whistling Straits doesn’t really suit Spieth’s game, but Chambers Bay really didn’t either and he did alright, didn’t he? We’ve gotten to the point where you fade Spieth at your own risk.

His price really isn’t that bad either. You can take Spieth and make a good looking team. There is plenty of value to be had this week.

I’ve been high on Dustin Johnson ($11,200), but man is it hard to trust him. Johnson was my pick to win here at the PGA Championship before the season started, but I don’t know.

Johnson has all the tools to win here at Whistling Straits. Just like he had the tools to win at Chambers Bay and at St. Andrews but he may just not have that it factor.

The storyline is there for Johnson. Redemption at Whistling Straits five years later and he gets the major monkey off his back. But, eh, it’s tough.

I’ll probably have some stock in Johnson, but when you are paying for this price you are expecting a win and I’m just not all that confident that D.J. will deliver a win.

I really like the bottom three in this group. I’ll definitely have my fair share of exposure in Jason Day ($10,800), Adam Scott ($10,200), and Justin Rose ($10,000).

I’m confident that all three will be in contention on Sunday. It’s all a matter of how you construct your lineup, how much money you’ve got, which value picks you are targeting and which skill set you are favoring.

For example, Scott is a bit better off the tee as he is 5rd in Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green; Day is the better putter of the three as he ranks 20th in Strokes Gained: Putting; and Rose is superb with his irons as he ranks 18th in Greens in Regulation and 19th in Proximity to the Hole.

If I had to pick one, ah boy, I guess I would take either Day or Rose. The tiebreaker might be how they perform at Firestone. Again, I’m writing this before the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has even started. But, I suppose I’ll go with Rose.

Rose is the cheaper pick of the three and provides a little bit more of salary flexibility. I don’t think you can go wrong with either of those three anchoring your lineups.
