Although Sei Young Kim, who’s currently leading in the Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year race, and Ha Na Jang, who’s also a top-ranked rookie, aren’t in the field, there’s no shortage of rookie talent getting ready to tee it up.

Hyo Joo Kim, already competitive with the top-ranked players in women’s golf, will be on the hunt for her second 2015 win.  She’s already out-played Stacy Lewis to notch her first rookie victory at the JTBC Founders Cup.

But Minjee Lee, who’s also bringing a rookie year victory to the tee, and Alison Lee, who would very much like to add a win to her rookie resume and is also playing hard to get Captain Inkster’s attention as one of her two wild card picks for the US Solheim Cup, are also going to figure into the mix this week.

A bit further down in the rankings, Q Baek and Sakura Yokomine have also been baring their teeth and while I don’t seem then contending for the top of the board, I do see them playing the weekend and continuing to build their games.  Minjee Lee and Alison Lee are another matter.  Either of them could make a bid for the top of the board.

Brooke Henderson is the wild card in the Portland Classic field.  Henderson has used her her quota of sponsor exemptions and will be attempting to get in the field at the Monday qualifier.  If she gets over that hurdle the entire field dynamic could reconfigure.
