Adam Scott: Major Window Has Officially Closed
By Danny Norris
Every golfer has a window of opportunity to rack up wins and majors on their resume. We talked about this recently with Henrik Stenson. We speculated the odds of him winning a major as his window is closing very soon.

Stenson made a great run to make the cut at the 2015 PGA Championship and he got back in contention. We’ll see what he does on the weekend. However, the same couldn’t be said about his playing partner Adam Scott.
After seventeen straight made cuts at majors, Scott’s streak came to an end at the 2015 PGA Championship. Scott’s superb ball-striking couldn’t save him as his putting was just atrocious.
After starting off the first round with two birdies, Scott had a five foot putt for par, but ended up walking off with a double bogey. That set the tone and foreshadowed of what was to come for the next 33 holes.
Scott couldn’t make a putt and his ball-striking was not absolutely perfect. Which it would need to be in order to make up some strokes on his putter, but that is just nearly impossible. Eventually, you have to make some putts and Scott was unable to do that.
With that said, I believe we have seen Scott’s major window officially come to a close.
Scott had his window of opportunity, but it’s gone now. Scott was in peak form for this past decade. You can even go back to 2004 to 2006 where he was a really quality golfer, but he really hit his stride for the past five years or so.

From 2011 to 2015 he finished inside the top ten in at least two majors. In 2016, I would expect that to come to an end. Maybe he’ll find a way to finish inside the top ten at one of the majors next year, but I wouldn’t expect it.
That streak really should have come to an end this year, but Scott was able to hold on and back door his way into a top ten finish at The Open Championship.
The warning signs are there and when we look back in a couple of years from now, we will know for sure, but I have a feeling that his window has officially shut.
Which is such a shame because Scott is such a fantastic striker of the ball. He hits it straight and bombs it a long way, but he just cannot make a putt.
When it comes down to it, you have to make putts if you are going to win majors. You have to make those clutch birdie putts to win and make those clutch par putts to grind out tournaments. Scott is unable to do that even with his anchored putter.
Starting next year, the anchoring ban on putters will be put in place. Scott’s putting is only going to get worse. He tried a short putter earlier in the year and it just wasn’t working for him.
It’ll be interesting to see just how far Scott falls, or if he falls. You never know, I could be wrong. Maybe Scott will figure out his putting and continue to be one of the top golfers in the world, but I doubt it.
Anyway, as I was saying, it’ll be interesting to see where Scott is on the Official World Golf Rankings next year at this time. Coming into the PGA Championship he was 11th.
Where will be be next year? Things change and go bad badly very quickly in golf. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him somewhere outside the top 25.
Scott’s going to be one of the golfers I keep a close eye next year whenever he plays. How many tournaments will Scott play next year? How will Scott perform at the majors? Will he win a tournament? How many top tens will he have?
Time will tell, but I don’t think Scott will be very good next year and for the years to come.
