$12,700-$10,000

There are only four golfers to choose from and it’s your usual suspects. Jordan Spieth ($12,700) is the best golfer on the planet and should do really well this week. Plainfield fits his game, but even if he didn’t that hasn’t stopped Spieth this year.

We already talked about Dustin Johnson ($10,700) as he won here back in 2011. Jason Day ($11,500) is coming off a win at the PGA Championship and Justin Rose ($10,900) has been in contention for the last couple of months now.

It’s tough and pretty unwise to fade Spieth, but you are getting some strong alternatives in Johnson, Day, and Rose. All three are playing well of late. Well, maybe save for Johnson as he has been a bit up and down of late. But, all three do equally well at Ross courses.

Johnson won back in 2011, but last year at Pinehurst he finished T-4 and at Oak Hill he finished T-8. Day had the same exact finishes.

Rose didn’t do quite as well at those particular tournaments finishing T-12 at last year’s U.S. Open and T-33 at the 2013 PGA Championship, but if you go back to the 2008 PGA Championship when Oakland Hill Country Club hosted, Rose finished T-9.

If trying to decide between these four, one other factor that you can’t exactly quantify and you may not want to consider, but is worth nothing is just how hungry they are coming in.

We know Spieth is hungry to win every time out. Johnson still has a chip on his shoulder and I think he’ll perform well. But, I have my doubts about Day and Rose.

Day might be satisfied after finally winning that major that he may not be up for The Barclays. For Rose, he may have a letdown the other way. Rose didn’t win that major. Is Rose going to be as hungry this week and still want it or does The Barclays just not excite him?

I was really high on Rose considering his game fits like a glove, but I’m having my doubts and am probably reading too much into it.

Like I say, how hungry someone is something that you can’t quantify. You might not want to consider, but I figure it is worth mentioning anyway.
