$9,900-$9,000

There are five golfers in this range, but I’m writing off Bubba Watson ($9,900). Watson missed the cut at last year’s U.S. Open, at the 2013 PGA Championship, and in 2011.

Watson is clearly not a big fan of Donald Ross designs. Henrik Stenson ($9,600) on the other hand is.

Stenson didn’t play The Barclays back in 2011, but he finished 3rd at Oak Hill, T-4 at Pinehurst, and going back to the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hill Country Club he finished T-4.

Stenson didn’t have a great showing at the majors this year and so people maybe off him. For me, Stenson will be a pillar play this week.

Brooks Koepka ($9,700) had another great showing last week and paid off his steep price. As we talked about in the power rankings post, Koepka has been one of the hottest golfers on Tour and I don’t see any reason for him to not play well again this week.

Matt Kuchar ($9,300) is trending in the right direction after two top sevens in his last three starts. Plus, Kuchar has played well on Donald Ross courses in the past.

In 2011, he finished runner-up to D.J. Kuchar lead at the PGA Championship in 2013, but fell off on the weekend and ended up finishing in a tie for 22nd. At last years U.S. Open he finished T-12.

I like Rickie Fowler ($9,800) this week. I don’t think he’s a bad play, but I like Stenson, Koepka, and Kuchar more. We get to that point where you have to draw the line in the sand somewhere and you just can’t take everybody.
