Golf Will Flourish for Years
By Sam Adams
Professional golf will flourish for years to come regardless of what happens to Tiger Woods. The game is now full of talent and is in good hands. The problem that we have is a growing number good hands.

Here are a few things worth considering.
The top five players in the world right now are: Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, and Justin Rose. Only two are in their thirties with Bubba being the oldest at 36.
Jordan Spieth hit a great bunker shot on the 16th in the PGA Championship and made birdie. He then finished with two pars and broke the record that Tiger Woods set in 2000. Jordan Spieth managed to shoot an incredible 54 under par in the majors.
He matched the 72-hole record at the Masters on a more difficult course than Tiger played in 1997.
While Spieth’s major season still doesn’t match the one that Tiger Woods had in 2000, or Ben Hogan’s season in 1953, it is still one of the best ever.
The interesting thing is that in 2000 Tiger was winning by huge margins. Spieth had to play as well as he did just to have a chance to win. He did win by four at Augusta and he was only one shot out of the playoff for The Open, but if Dustin Johnson could have two putted from 12 feet he would be settling for only the Masters victory.
Next you have Jason Day that became so emotional after he missed out on playoff in The Open by a single shot. Later he would take his driver and smash his way to his first major at the PGA Championship.
Then you have Louis Oosthuizen who finished only one shot behind at the U.S. Open and then managed to lose in a playoff at The Open.
A year ago, when Rory McIlroy was playing so well, he had to contend with Rickie Fowler, who had top five finishes in all four majors and came back to win The Players Championship, which many are beginning to refer to as the fifth major, with an eagle-birdie-birdie finish.
If Tiger were playing today the way he did in 2000, he would not be as dominating as he was then. There are just too many good players today. Anyone that has been paying attention to what has been going on for the last two years can see that. In the majors this year it was obvious.

Rory McIlroy had a run of three straight last year including two majors and the World Golf Championship. At the end of last year the only question was about finding him a rival for the best player in the world.
Nine months later, he was No. 2.
The odds makers have already picked Spieth for the 2016 Masters by a slight edge over McIlroy. I’m only sorry that we have to wait over seven months for the next major.
In the words of Jason Day, “That’s what I’m looking forward to is the sheer competition of being able to fight against these guys each week and have that competition and fight against them”. “It’s going to be a lot of fun over the next five to 10 years.”
